    The Challenge

    The Challenge

The city of St. Louis is home to a significant population of elderly and low-income homeowners who require minor repairs and upgrades for their residences. Typically, these homeowners would be eligible for the Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants offered by the state of Missouri through the Department of Rural Development under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. However, while these funding options are crucial, they often come in the form of loans, adding to the financial burden of these already financially strapped homeowners. Moreover, even after securing funding, residents are responsible for vetting contractors and ensuring that the project can be completed within their funding constraints. This is where Operation Renovate comes in, providing a solution to address these challenges.

    Benefits to This Solution

    Responsible Budgeting

Each project has a maximum budget of $500 to maintain a balanced scope of service and enable us to assist more homeowners.

    Learn Valuable Skills

We encourage church members and relatives of the homeowners to participate, aiming for a two-fold goal:

    • Volunteers will gain experience in completing small projects.
    • Homeowners will gain the confidence to tackle other DIY (do-it-yourself) projects in their homes.

    Connecting Contractors to Homeowners

Leveraging our network of trusted small business contractors, we serve as a referral channel connecting contractors with homeowners.

    Here To Hold Hands

For projects that fall outside our scope, we act as consultants for homeowners by assisting them in evaluating proposals from contractors and determining the most suitable course of action.

    The Value

    The Value

Operation Renovate offers numerous benefits on multiple levels. For homeowners who may be uninformed, the program provides access to a council of licensed contractors with extensive experience. This guidance and support alleviate the stress and uncertainty surrounding the quality of workmanship. Additionally, financially challenged homeowners can receive assistance without incurring further financial burdens.

Volunteers also have the opportunity to contribute to their community and acquire new skills through this program. For the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Operation Renovate presents a chance to expand its community engagement efforts. Small business owners can benefit from new business opportunities and enhance their reputation within their industry. Ultimately, the entire city of St. Louis stands to gain from the removal of blight and an improved quality of life for homeowners.

    Next Steps

    Next Steps

While there are organizations in our area that are focused on assisting the elderly and low-incomed homeowners, there are no organizations that serve as our direct competitors. To be sure, these other agencies will serve as partners for the referrals and collaboration as we seek to enhance the lives of those in St. Louis together. While we have completed many successful projects to date, we understand that continued funding will be the foundation for prolonged sustainability, so we are seeking support from local government agencies, religious organizations and individuals concerned about the quality of living in the city of St. Louis.
